My Perfect Custom-Made Wedding Shoes. PERFECT.

September 30, 2009 by princesspanda

I was so excited to collect my shoes from Leapin’ Lizard the other day. Their website is still under construction but they’re located on the ground floor of International Plaza here in Singapore.

I couldn’t find the right shoes for my boat-sized feet (with one foot half a size bigger than the other one on top of that!) that had the right style, heel height, fabric, colour, etc. So I bit the bullet and had mine especially created for me. Believe me, it sounds like a real tai-tai option, but honestly, if I had regular-sized feet like most people I wouldn’t have had to even resort to this. But when I saw the results, whoa boy, no regrets! They’re my dream wedding shoes; I can’t imagine getting married in anything else.

Having your shoes custom-made is not a cheap option but I’d say it was compatible to most off-the-rack shoes price-wise, and WAY cheaper than Jimmy Choos or Louboutins. I’ve nothing against spiffy designer shoes…just couldn’t find my size. I did find some pretty Choos though, but they were simply the wrong colour and too insubstantial and strappy. I didn’t feel supported, and I wanted a proper  COVERED SHOE that wouldn’t be slidey and uncomfortable.

So I trotted off to Leapin’ Lizard with my fabric swatches in my hand, and worked out a design with the nice proprietor, arranged to have my ownpersonalized monogram shoe labels sown in for a personal touch, picked a beautifully rich antique/champagne shade of satin that coordinated nicely with my antique lace gown and would go with my Gatsby gown too, got so detailed as to specify the shape and size of the shoe-jewel (which must be removable, the shoe must look good even without it, the crystals had to be non-catch, non-claw crystals that wouldn’t hook on my gown, etc.), went for one fitting (a shoe fitting! How couture!), and BAM!! The most perfect wedding shoes were born!

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. It’s a bit more sepia-toned than it should be, thanks to the lighting at my condo. Pictures were taken at night after I got back from work.

Best of all, I tried on the shoes with my gorgeous lace gown…and they went BEAUTIFULLY! The satin and bling played off beautifully against the antique chantilly lace; the blingy shoe-jewel didn’t catch on the lace AT ALL despite my deliberate attempts to “force” it and the sparkle that peeked out from the bottom of the hem every time I walked was heavenly! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

If you’re having trouble looking for the perfect wedding shoes, either because you’re picky discerning like me, or if you have difficult feet (too large, too small, flat-footed, different sizes, etc), then I’d suggest having your shoes made especially for you. At Leapin’ Lizard, it really isn’t that expensive, and you’d have the assurance of fit, comfort and a personal style that’s unique to you.

That’s it. My last bit of advice before turning in, dreaming yummy wedding shoe dreams. Before I end this post, here’s another gratuitous Yeti shot; she was trying to get me to play with her when I was taking pictures of my elegantly shod feet, with my work pants rolled up above my knees for maximum impact. Check out my darling Yeti’s fur boots in the mirror!
